Matrix director steps out in pink dreads after sex change
After almost a decade, Hollywood director Larry Wachowski goes public with his transformation to Lana Wachowski.
The Matrix director Larry Wachowski is now a woman named Lana. The 47-year-old famous Hollywood film director — best known for his Matrix series — went public as a transsexual in a recent trailer for the upcoming film Cloud Atlas. The Daily Mail reports Wachowski "has been undergoing hormone therapy as part of his sex-change treatment for nearly a decade." It's not clear if Larry Wachowski has undergone sex reassignment surgery (SRS).
Wachowski reveals his transition from male to female in a scene introducing Cloud Atlas. The film marks Wachowski's first film credit as a woman — as Lana Wachowski. She has pink hair in dreadlocks and announces the change with a breathy, German accent: “Hi, I’m Lana.” The New York Post reports Lana Wachowski recently purchased a home in San Francisco under the name “Laurencia” for $2.7 million.
Cloud Atlas is a highly anticipated film with major Hollywood actors such as Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, and Hugh Grant. The plot is based on the 2004 novel by David Mitchell of the same time and spans several hundred years. IMDb summarizes the plot as “an exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.”
