Parks and Rec is headed to Washington
At the end of season four, Ben Wyatt was leaving for D.C., but will Leslie Knope leave Pawnee and join him there?
When season five of Parks and Recreation returns on Sept. 20, fans may wonder where they are.
“Parks and Recreation wasn’t kidding about shipping Ben off to the nation’s capital in the Season 4 finale,” said TVLine.com. “When the show returns with its fifth season on Sept. 20, there’s a good chance Adam Scott‘s up-and-coming political strategist will literally be in Washington, D.C.”
The site continues by saying that Amy Poehler’s character Leslie Knope will probably be joining him, at least in the beginning of the season.
Sources told TVLine that the movie is not to cut Scott’s character out of the show, but to add a plot twist.
“While we can’t see Ms. Knope packing it up and leaving Pawnee for good, our original intel was that Ben’s Washington stint might last a while -- and as such, the show planned to go on location to shoot footage that could be used in the Sept. 20 opener and beyond,” said the site.
The show has even recruited some real politicians to star in the season premiere in Washington D.C., including U.S. Senators Barbara Boxer of California, John McCain of Arizona and Olympia Snowe of Maine. TVLine reports that the politicians will make their appearances in a cocktail party attended by Poehler and Scott’s characters.
The plot twist at the end of season four regarding Knope’s boyfriend moving to Washington D.C. was something the show knew they would have to follow-through on in the long term.
“We want to make it real,” executive producer Michael Schur told TVGuide.com. “We don’t want to have it be that in the premiere all of a sudden he’s back. That would be pointless. He’s going to be gone for a while.”
The show shot the D.C. scenes for the Sept. 27 episode, but it could be used in the Sept. 20 premiere, and for the rest of the season.
