JLo: Powerful? Forbes says yes
Jennifer Lopez is one powerful celebrity: She's topping Forbes' list of most popularity celebrities for the first year. Who did she triumph over for the coveted top spot?
This is surprising: Singer and American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez is the most powerful celebrity in Hollywood, according to Forbes' "Most Powerful Celebrities" list. The 42-year-old cougar managed to best Lady Gaga, Oprah and Justin Bieber for the crown.
JLo's career was on the downward slide before signing on to Idol. She made an estimated $52 million in 2011 with her stint on the reality singing competition, clothing lines at Kohl's, endorsement deals with L'Oreal and Gillette and a summer tour with Enrique Iglesias.
However, this may be her one and only year on top of the list: Rumors are swirling that the mother of Max and Emme will be ditching Idol after this year, after two years on the show.
"I don't know if I can go for a third year. I miss doing other things," Lopez coyly told reporters at the premiere of her new film, What to Expect When You're Expecting. However, she might only be holding out for more money since she pretty much said the same thing last year. Will she get more than the estimated $20 million she earned for this season? It's likely, since executive producer Nigel Lythgoe can't say enough nice things about her.
"Jennifer might say, 'I'm worried that you're doing this,' or 'put a little more heart into it…' And I much prefer that they are nice, because these are the best kids that we have," Lythgoe told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year. "We searched the country for them. Jennifer and Steven are artists so they're always going to be exceptionally considerate because they don't want to chop the legs from underneath these kids. They're not going to make any money from them."
He still feels the same way, just one week from the season finale. "We really, really want her back," he told TMZ earlier this week.
Time will tell, but we think she'll be back — white trucks for younger boy toy Casper Smart don't buy themselves, you know?
