Anna Paquin insists bisexuality is a bona fide thing
Anna Paquin rarely opens up about her private life, but just for this one moment she's got something to say. The married and pregnant True Blood star wants everyone to know bisexuality is a bona fide thing -- not just code for someone who is afraid to admit they're gay.
When Anna Paquin announced her bisexuality in 2010, during her engagement to co-star Stephen Moyer, some people were left scratching their heads. Though she very seldom speaks about her private life, the now pregnant actress insists identifying as bisexual is still "meaningful" to her.
"I’m sure for some people saying they’re bisexual feels less scary than making a statement that they’re gay," Anna Paquin told Zooey magazine during a recent interview.
"For me, it’s not really an issue because I’m someone who believes being bisexual is actually a thing," the 29-year-old True Blood star continued. "It’s not made up. It’s not a lack of decision. It’s not being greedy or numerous other ignorant things I’ve heard at this point. For a bisexual, it’s not about gender. That’s not the deciding factor for who they’re attracted to."
When asked if she regrets coming out as bisexual in the 2010 Give a Damn campaign Paquin insisted, "Absolutely not. I think it’s a really minor biographical detail. If you’re going to talk about some cause in a way that’s meaningful, you should identify why it means something to you."
Aside from the occasional comment meant to dispel some misconceptions, don't get used to Anna Paquin, or husband Stephen Moyer, pictured here with his daughter Lilac from a previous relationship, sharing their personal lives.
"I think it’s important to have things that are just for you and people that are closest to you," she told the magazine. "Some people share absolutely everything, but then what do you have left that’s yours? It diminishes what’s really special in your life."
