Jennifer Westfeldt and Jon Hamm kick it without kids
Jennifer Westfeldt writes, directs, produces and stars in Friends With Kids, inspired by the great baby dilemma. Will she and longtime love Jon Hamm ever have kids of their own?
Jennifer Westfeldt and Jon Hamm's friends deserve credit for putting babies on the couple's brains. The acting pair, together for over 14 years, are pondering the possibility of becoming parents thanks to her creation of the upcoming film Friends With Kids.
At the age of 42, actress Jennifer Westfeldt has opened up about why she and Mad Men boyfriend Jon Hamm haven't yet had children. "I've thought about this a lot lately," she shared with The New York Times. "I never thought I’d be this age and not have kids. But my life has also gone in a million ways I never anticipated."
Westfeldt, who was inspired to write Friends With Kids by watching the effect having children had on the couple's real life friends, went on to say there's a slim possibility she and Jon Hamm will decide to have a baby yet.
"I kept feeling like I'd wake up with absolute clarity, and I haven't. And we have a pretty great life together. The chance that we'll regret it doesn't seem like a compelling enough reason to do it. I may wake up tomorrow with that lighting bolt, and I'll have to scramble to make it happen."
"Best intentions aside, having kids always changes your friendship, at least that first year or so, in a way that I think is painful for both of you."
Jon Hamm, who also stars in his girlfriend's film, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about becoming a father last fall. "We don't [have children]," he confirmed when asked by inquiring journalists. "It's always on the periphery of the discussion, but we do not have children."
"You know, it's a tricky balance to strike," the man who stars alongside sultry Mad Men star Christina Hendricks went on to say. "And I have a tremendous amount of respect for my friends who do balance this particular career with raising a kid, because it's a tricky environment to bring them into. So not for us just yet."
