Now this is interesting.
Of course, this wouldn’t be nearly as exciting if Lindsay Lohan — Megan’s former co-star in the 2004 comedy Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen — weren’t also vying for the role.
In a potential boost for her flat-lining acting career, Lohan has been in talks to play the two-time Oscar-winning actress in a Lifetime telemovie. Fox, however, appeared in an Armani ad last fall, where she convincingly channeled the old-school glamour of Taylor.
The spot helped the brunette shoot to the top of the shortlist, where she’s running neck and neck with Lohan.
Liz & Dick — a somewhat catchier title than the previous Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story — will cover Taylor’s controversial love affair with her Cleopatra co-star and their eventual double divorce. The network has placed producer Larry Thompson in charge of casting, but the Hollywood vet is having a tough time choosing between the two actresses.
“I’ve been talking to Lindsay Lohan directly and with her reps and have been in conversations with other actresses, including Megan Fox,” he told E! News Tuesday. “It’s a very serious selection. It’s like casting for Hollywood royalty.”
Further complicating matters is the fact that both girls kinda hate each other — at least that’s what Megan told Arena magazine back in 2007. The ex-Transformers bombshell, who made her film debut in Teenage Drama Queen, confided to the glossy that she never really hit it off with Lindsay.
Fox took strong exception with industry types who made comparisons between the staunchly different starlets.
“Oh my God! People think we’re alike?! Ugh! Oh my gosh! Lindsay and I were never friends when we starred together. I mean, we were two 16-year-old girls, it’s rare for them to get along and we didn’t,” Megan retorted.
Fox could very well outfox LiLo for the Liz role. Thompson admits that Lohan’s frequent legal woes are “a complication.”
Lindsay’s probation — on various counts of driving under the influence, shoplifting and violating probation — is scheduled to end around March, provided she can behave herself that long.
