Sinead O'Connor: Crack derailed "coffin" of marriage
Sinead O'Connor compared her 18-day marriage to living in a coffin -- and says the relationship was derailed by her drug habit.
She blamed the breakdown on his family, but it turns out that the end of singer Sinead O'Connor's short-lived marriage was probably caused more by her own drug habit.
O'Connor, 45, told the UK Sun that she still loves 38-year-old Barry Herridge, but her post-wedding drug run sort of put a damper on their romance, considering the fact that the guy's a drug counselor.
"We ended up in a cab in some place that was quite dangerous," O'Connor explained of their Las Vegas wedding night.
"I wasn't scared -- but he's a drugs counselor. What was I thinking?
"Then I was handed a load of crack. Barry was very frightened -- that kind of messed everything up a bit really."
Of course, she also compared their marriage to death, so that doesn't bode well either.
"It felt like I was living in a coffin. It was going to be a coffin for both of us and I saw him crushed," she said.
"The whole reason I ended it was out of respect and love for the man."
The singer previously had briefly alluded to the drug run on her blog, but placed the bulk of the blame for the break on her hubby's friends and family.
"Within three hours of the ceremony being over the marriage was kyboshed by the behavior of certain people in my husband's life," she wrote on her blog. "And also by a bit of a wild ride I took us on looking for a bit of a smoke of weed for me wedding night as I don't drink.
"My husband was enormously wounded and very badly affected by that experience and also by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage."
O'Connor and Herridge wed in Vegas on Dec. 8. She announced their impending split on Christmas Eve.
