Selena Gomez thanked fans for their support after her mom suffered a miscarriage — and revealed that her younger sister was to be named Scarlett.
Disney star Selena Gomez opened up for the first time yesterday since the sad news broke that her mom had suffered a miscarriage. On her Facebook page, Gomez revealed that her mom was pregnant with a baby girl that would have been named Scarlett.
“Belated Merry Christmas everybody,” Gomez wrote on her Facebook page yesterday. “I can’t thank you enough for all of your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate every one of you… I love you all so much and we hope you and your family had a beautiful Christmas!”
Gomez signed off with, “Love, Me, Momma, Brian and our guardian angel Scarlett.”
It was late last month that the Wizards of Waverly Place star excitedly announced via Twitter that she would be a big sister as her mom and stepfather, Brian, were pregnant. “Momma and Brian are finally letting me share the news… My mommy’s carrying my baby brother or sister 🙂 I’m the happiest girl in the world!” she wrote.
Gomez’s mom, Mandy, divorced her father when she was 5 years old and married Brian Teefey five years ago.
Gomez reportedly learned of her mom’s miscarriage while attending Power 106’s Cali Christmas 2011 concert in Los Angeles and, after learning of the sad news, abruptly left the show to be with her mom. She then canceled two scheduled holiday shows to be with her mom, however is still scheduled to perform on MTV’s New Year’s Eve Special.
There were rumors that Gomez and her boyfriend Justin Bieber were planning on spending the holidays together in Canada (and Gomez was even pondering a marriage proposal), however Gomez stayed in the U.S. to be with her mom.
