Well, it took him long enough! Christmas Day brought a shiny diamond engagement ring and the vow of wedding bells in the new year for Camila Alves.
The longtime companion of actor Matthew McConaughey accepted a holiday proposal from the screen star over the weekend.
“Just asked Camila to marry me, #MerryChristmas,” the actor posted to his WhoSay page on Sunday, along with a snapshot of the happy couple engaged in a lip-lock.
This is big news for the Lincoln Lawyer actor, who stated his indifference about the whole idea of holy matrimony in a 2008 interview with Playboy magazine.
“I believe in the institution [of marriage], but I don’t feel you have to marry. A kid just needs a mom and a dad,” Matt said.
The actor and the Brazilian model — host of Bravo’s Shear Genius — met at a Los Angeles bar in 2006. They are the parents of two: 3-year-old son Levi and daughter, Vida, born in January 2010.
“I found the woman… I wanna make a family with, hopefully live our life out together,” Matthew, 42, told Esquire magazine of Alves last March.
Matthew’s own parents, James and Kay, were married and divorced three times… to each other! Grandma Kay has made no secret of her desire to see Matthew and Camila tie the knot.
She told her famous son as much when he called to tell her about Levi’s pending arrival.
“He said, ‘Mom, are you ready?’ And I said, ‘What?’ And he said, ‘Camilla and I are going to have a baby.’ And I go, ‘Oh, that’s wonderful!’ Then I said, ‘So when are y’all getting married?… This is a question that 76-year-old mothers ask, Matthew.’ Out in Hollywood they get their sequence all mixed up. But I have dropped the subject. He is going to be a wonderful dad. He likes to have fun. He won’t put up with whining. But it’s going to be a happy child.”
No word yet on a possible wedding date.
