NeNe Leakes and synchronized swimming — that’s something we never thought we’d say, but thanks to Glee, we get the pleasure. Leakes is stepping into the guest role of McKinley High’s synchronized swim coach, Roz Washington, and the first picture has dropped courtesy of Fox. From the looks of it, her character isn’t in any mood to play around.
Those are some big hoop earrings The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s NeNe Leakes is rocking as Roz Washington, but we didn’t expect anything less from the sassy gal.
The new pic is the first glimpse into Leakes’ character we’ve gotten, aside from the fact that her debut episode will air on Jan.17 and be called “Yes/No.” Oh, and she’ll be Sue Sylvester’s rival.
NeNe Leakes hit up her Twitter account to gush about her excitement when the news she landed the gig was revealed. “The secret is out! YES I hav a recurring role on GLEE! I’m coach Roz Washington the synchronized swim coach! So honored,” she wrote.
She tweeted a day later, “A special Thank u 2 Ryan Murphy the creator of Glee that believed n me & the cast 4 comin n my trailer welcomin me wit open arms.”
NeNe Leakes isn’t the only one appearing in the Jan. 17 episode. Helen Mirren is lending her voice to a character’s inner dialogue.
Which character, you ask? We’d love to tell you, but it hasn’t been revealed yet.
We do know, however, that the inner voice role was written specifically for her and Mirren’s The Passion Of Ayn Rand co-star and occasional Glee director, Eric Stoltz, helped pitch the part to her.
NeNe Leakes and Helen Mirren are just a few names heading to Fox’s musical hit. Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan will also be checking into Glee when the new year hits.
