X Factor: Simon Cowell responsible for Drew's elimination

Dec 2, 2011 at 12:15 p.m. ET

On Thursday night's episode of The X Factor, we witnessed Simon Cowell do something he rarely does -- admit when he's wrong.

The X Factor is a reality competition show -- someone always has to go home. This week's elimination of Drew Ryniewicz was particularly hard for Simon Cowell, as he feels to blame.

On Thursday's results show of The X Factor, Drew Ryniewicz and Marcus Canty stood together to find out who the judges would be sending home.

Here's where Cowell comes into play. He chose the wrong song for Drew on Wednesday's performance show and once he saw his hopeful winner standing on the stage, he knew it.

Simon Cowell admitted on the results show in front Drew, the audience and the other judges, "The reason Drew is in this position tonight is my fault."

He went on to plead, "I take total responsibility. I genuinely believe you deserve a second chance. I'm begging these two [judges] to give her another chance."

Well, all the begging in the world couldn't save Drew, who Cowell backed from the get-go, and she was sent packing with her dreams crushed. No, seriously, you could see it on her face. She was an emotional wreck.

Drew Ryniewicz did manage to gain a fan out of all this -- Justin Bieber!

Drew put her own spin on Bieber's song "Baby" for her original audition and the superstar tweeted his support after the results show: "@drewryniewicz keep your head up. I lost my first competition too. This is just the beginning for u. Never say never. Best wishes."

How cool is that? In Drew Ryniewicz eyes -- very cool! She tweeted in response, "Justin Bieber follows me now!"

She also made sure her fans knew she'd be okay once the shock wore off. "Hey thank you for your love!. I'll miss the xfactor but have a lot more in stor for you all! Upbeat? Yes," she tweeted.
