Reality television is about to feel the spirit. Pastor Joel Osteen is bringing inspiration to the genre in a new show based on helping those in need.
When you flick through the channels on your TV, we know you’ve come across Pastor Joel Osteen and thought, “Man, I wish there was a reality show about him.”
Well, wish granted!
Leader of one of the “largest and fastest” growing church congregations (according to his website), Joel Osteen has signed on to bring his unique word to reality television.
Joel Osteen said during a news conference, “What I’m excited about is that it’s another way to take our message of hope and inspiring people to another venue.”
Reality TV is certainly one way to get your message out there.
Osteen is partnering with famed reality mogul Mark Burnett to bring his Houston-based church’s mission to those who have yet to experience it for themselves.
The Lakewood Church already broadcasts to 7 million American viewers weekly, but the new reality show would see members of the church visiting communities in need and making a difference.
Osteen said of Mark Burnett, “I’ve always admired him and liked his shows. I like his values. I like his style. I believe he knows who we are and what we’re all about. When I think of reality shows, I think of cameras following you, doing nothing. We don’t want to do just a reality show.”
The enthusiastic man of the church added, “We want to do something that inspires people and makes them better. It’s not only entertaining and fun, but leaves some kind of message.”
Whether or not we stay on the channel when flicking through once the reality show launches remains to be seen, but it’s mildly entertaining to think about the idea of this new vehicle.
