Actor Hugh Grant is all about diapers and bottles these days: He’s now a father!
Hugh Grant is now a father! The British actor welcomed a baby girl this week, his publicist confirmed in a statement.
“I can confirm that Hugh Grant is the delighted father of a baby girl,” publicist Carrie Gordon said. “He and the mother had a fleeting affair and while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive. He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms.”
“He’s not with the mum anymore but he’s absolutely thrilled.”
Grant’s rep wouldn’t name his former “fleeting” flame, though we’re assuming it’s not his ex-girlfriend, Jemima Chan. The pair dated for three years before splitting last year. He most famously dated model and actress Elizabeth Hurley for 13 years.
The new daughter is the first for Grant, 51. He’s talked about children over the years, though mostly it was about his nieces and nephews. However, he said last year that he would welcome it if it happened.
“Yes, yes, yes. I haven’t given up hope,” he said in a Parade interview.
“That’s on the basis that I can leave after 10 minutes,” he joked. “Ten years ago, I wouldn’t have thought about having children at all. I find I’m not as bad with children as I used to be.”
The Music and Lyrics actor echoed his words in a 2010 Vogue interview.
“As much as I adore myself, I’m quite keen to find someone else to care about more. I remember reading a Warren Beatty quote when he finally had children and said what a relief it was to not be all me, me, me,” he said.
Wondering what sort of father he’ll be? Well, he knows what he won’t do.
“I see a lot of children over-parented now, by my standards,” Grant told Parade. “Over-adored. Over-spoiled. I quite like the children left alone to get on with it.”
We can’t wait to see pictures of the new little bundle of joy!
