Glee‘s Charice Pempengco is in mourning today over the horrific death of her father. According to reports, Ricky Pempengco, a construction worker in the Philippines, died of stab wounds inflicted by a stranger.

The 40-year-old, who has been estranged from Charice since her early childhood, reportedly brushed up against another man while out grocery shopping Monday. According to Laguna province police chief, Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, the other man became enraged and stabbed Pempengco in the chest and back with an ice pick.

The man, believed to be named Angel Capili, was reportedly drunk at the time of the incident.

Charice sent a message out to her Twitter fans early Tuesday, writing:

I am very sorry to all my fans from Singapore. I am not going to be there to be part of David Foster and Friends concert. I have to go back to the Philippines as soon as possible to be with my family. I hope you all understand. I love you all and I will see you next year.

The 19-year-old, who rose to fame through the popularity of her Youtube videos, also tweeted a message in part English, part Tagalog. “Last night, I was with somebody that looked like my dad,” it is reported she wrote. “I didn’t know that my dad was trying to make his presence felt. I just want you to know that we had a really great relationship before all the trouble started. My mother didn’t know that when I was young, my father told me that he wanted me to be a soldier because I’m a fearless woman. I loved him, and I will still love him. He’s still my dad after all.”

A manhunt for Angel Capili has since been launched, with a reward of $20,000 pesos ($470) for information leading to his arrest.

Our condolences go out to the family of Glee star Charice Pempengco over the loss of her father.
