Favorite ATWT couples
As the second longest running daytime television show in history, beginning on April 2, 1956 and ending on September 17, 2010, As the World Turns provided viewers with some of the most beloved and crazy relationships. The love triangles, spats, romance, secret trysts and seductive moments between so many of the characters kept us on the edge of our couches season after season. But there are definitely a few favorite couples that stood out. Here, SheKnows shares our favorite ATWT couples.
Holden Snyder and Lily Walsh Snyder
Lily Walsh was just 15 when she met Holden Snyder. She became very close with Holden's family, particularly his mother, who was totally opposite from her own controlling mother, Lucinda. The couple married/divorced more times than we can count. We always cried when they split, and cheered when they reunited. Both had many relationships and other marriages (not to mention children) over the years, but none were so powerful as the love that Holden and Lily had for one another.
Luke Snyder and Noah Mayer
Noah and Luke are not only a favorite ATWT couple, but also a favorite couple overall, thanks to their groundbreaking relationship. ATWT made history in 2007 by sharing an on-screen lip lock, and going on to form the first and only gay male couple on daytime TV. In January of 2009, they made another first by consummating their relationship. Luke and Noah worked together as interns at WOAK-TV. Luke and Noah experienced on again/off again -- like nearly every other daytime TV relationship. Luke fell in love with another man -- Dr. Reid Oliver. After Reid's tragic death, Luke and Noah were reunited.
Will Munson and Gwen Norbeck
Will and Gwen often get compared to original super-couple Holden Snyder and Lily Walsh Snyder. Though they didn't get along at their first meeting, and both had interests in other people (Will in Celia, and Gwen in Casey), they grew close when Will helped the pregnant Gwen get proper prenatal care and conceal the identity of the baby's real father (Casey). After running away together to New York City, they shared their first kiss. They wanted to move in together, but when everyone disapproved because of their young age, they ran away together and tied the knot. They finally returned and sought refuge at Will's father's house while Will returned to finish high school. But there he met Jade, who became the source of all kinds of problems for Will and Gwen, resulting in their break-up. But few ATWT fans could forget the night they reunited when they found themselves trapped together in a snowstorm. Though the couple faced a lot more drama after that night, we still count them among one of our favorite ATWT couples!
