News of Kristin Davis' adoption has been officially confirmed! The Sex and the City star is now the mother of a baby girl she has chosen to name Gemma Rose Davis.

"This is something I have wanted for a very long time," Kristin Davis said to People magazine, who reports the baby girl was adopted domestically two months ago. "Having this wish come true is even more gratifying than I ever had imagined. I feel so blessed."

Though Kristin Davis' adoption news is late-breaking, it's been no secret that the 46-year-old longed to be a mother. In 2010 she spoke about the possibility of adoption with Access Hollywood. "You have to obviously think it through," she shared. "Best case scenario, you're obviously raising it with a father. It does give me pause to think about doing it alone. I feel like it's a really hard job."

So far the hard work seems to be suiting Kristin Davis just fine. A source tells Us Weekly, "She's ecstatic. She wanted this for a long time."

Before the adoption of Gemma Rose the actress had the chance to play a woman desperately wanting a baby and ultimately choosing to adopt. Davis' Sex and the City character, Charlotte York Goldenblatt, and fictional husband Harry Goldenblatt adopted a fictional baby girl named Lily from China. Charlotte later went on to give birth to a baby girl named Rose.

Other stars recently opting to adopt children from the United States include Sandra Bullock and Denise Richards, both of whom are currently raising their children on their own.

Congratulations to Kristin Davis on Gemma Rose's adoption!
