Bret Michaels rock and roll star and animal lover too
Long known as the face and voice of rock and roll legends Poison, Bret Michaels is now venturing into a new type of business. In 2012, the rocker will launch a new line of pet food titled, Pets Rock.
Maybe it was winning Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice. Maybe it's because he is an animal lover. Nonetheless, Bret Michaels has taken the two things he knows a lot about -- animals and making money -- and merged them together to create a new line of pet products for PetSmart, titled Pets Rock.
He stated to the Hollywood Reporter, "As a dedicated pet owner myself, this is a natural partnership for me and I can't wait to unveil the collection. I know my own pets rock, and I wanted to design a line of pet products every bit as fun and cool as they are."
Michaels joins a long line of other personalities who have joined the pet merchandising revolution, including Martha Stewart, Rachael Ray and Paul Newman.
Matt McAdam, the vice-president of merchandising for PetSmart, revealed, "Our pet parents have told us they want unique, high-quality products for their pets that are also fun and reflective of their personalities. Adding the Bret Michaels Pets Rock collection to PetSmart stores enables us to continue to meet our pet parents' needs with a 'cool' line of products from an entertainer with a demonstrated passion for our four-legged family members."
Born Bret Michaels Sychak in Butler, Pennsylvania, Michaels was bit by the music bug early, forming Poison with friends Rikki Rocket and Bobby Dall. They moved to Los Angeles in 1984 where the glam scene was just beginning to form. The band hit the Sunset Strip hard, playing night after night and plastering the area with flyers to promote their upcoming shows. Ladies soon found out that the band looked as good as it sounded, and soon Poison was the hottest band on the strip with the inclusion of C.C. DeVille.
The band racked up hit after hit through the '80s and '90s until they parted ways in 1998. They reunited again in the mid 2000s, and have played reunion concerts ever since. Most recently, Michaels became engaged to longtime girlfriend Kristi Lynn Gibson, mother of his two daughters, Jorja and Raine.
