ABC’s Private Practice and Broadway star Taye Diggs is tackling children’s literature. The multitalented actor has released a new book called Chocolate Me!, which teaches young kids about self-love and self-acceptance.
Fatherhood has changed Taye Diggs‘ view on life. The actor felt more vulnerable after the birth of his now 2-year-old son, Walker, with wife Idina Menzel. The newest addition to his family inspired him to write a poignant new children’s book called Chocolate Me!
“I’ve never loved anything so much,” Diggs says of Walker. “It comes to the point where it’s almost painful to realize that someone has you in such a vulnerable position.”
Diggs used his family focus to fuel the story of Chocolate Me!, which centers on a boy’s struggle to fit in with his friends. He told USA Today, “You should be proud and embrace your differences regardless if it’s race or religion or if something is looked upon as a handicap.”
The overall objective of Chocolate Me! is to teach children to embrace what makes them different. Whatever it is, they should see it as an asset and not a flaw. The book spans 40 pages in length and is recommended for children ages 4 to 8. While Diggs’ penned the story, his close friend Shane Evans illustrated the pictures.
While the children are enjoying Diggs’ Chocolate Me!, parents can watch him in a more mature setting each week on Private Practice. The actor stars as Dr. Sam Bennett on the ABC drama that returns for its fifth season on Thursday, September 29 at 10 p.m.
Chocolate Me! is currently in stores now.
