Austin Powers actor gets life for rape
An actor in the first Austin Powers movie has received a life sentence for rape.
Turns out Random Task from the first Austin Powers movie was much more evil than perhaps even Dr. Evil himself knew. Joseph Hyungmin Son, the actor who played Dr. Evil's henchman, has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted in a horrific rape and torture case.
Son and another man attacked the victim on Christmas Eve 1990 in Huntington Beach, California, raping her multiple times at gunpoint. They sodomized her and forced her to give them oral sex, all while holding a gun to her head.
After threatening to kill the victim, Son and his partner let her go "as a Christmas gift" -- and the victim had to run down the street naked with her panties tied over her eyes to get help.
"My twenties were stripped from my life as I relearned how to walk, see, hear and cope with the outside world again," said the victim in her impact statement to the court. "Joseph Son not only cost me my job at my salon but also my college savings... not to mention the impact it's made on celebrating Christmas year after year."
Son wasn't caught until 2008, when as part of a plea in a felony vandalism case he had to provide a DNA sample that wound up matching evidence from the 1990 crime.
