Put your mouth around Alec Baldwin’s Schweddy Balls

Ben & Jerry’s is introducing Schweddy Balls ice cream, based on the Alec Baldwin sketch on Saturday Night Live.

One of the all time greatest Saturday Night Live sketches is coming to life in a new way. Now you can enjoy Alec Baldwin’s Schweddy Balls chilled — as a new Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavor.

The delicious treat is based on the hilarious 1998 Delicious Dish skit in which Baldwin plays local baker Pete Schweddy hawking a special holiday treat on a public radio show.

“There are lots of great treats this time of year,” Schweddy says. “Zucchini bread. Fruitcake. But the thing I most like to bring out at this time of the year are my balls.”

“No one can resist my Schweddy Balls.”

“The name is irreverent,” says Ben & Jerry’s spokesman Sean Greenwood. “But we’ve always been about having some irreverence and having some fun … We’re not trying to offend people. Our fans get the humor.”

The ice cream features some delectable sounding balls loaded with rum and malt, dipped in fudge and surrounded by vanilla ice cream also flavored with rum.

“For a long time, I thought that ‘Here Lies Pete Schweddy’ would end up on my tombstone,” Alec Baldwin said. “Now, thanks to Ben & Jerry’s, the goodness of the Schweddy family recipe won’t go with me to the great beyond. It is immortalized here, right now, and it’s an ice cream. Ben & Jerry’s and Schweddy. Two great names in American dessert, together at last.”

Mmmmmmmmmm. Bet you can’t wait to get your mouth around those Schweddy Balls, too.

This isn’t the first SNL-inspired ice cream flavor. Ben & Jerry’s introduced Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night Snack earlier this year.
