This year’s AFI Film Festival is opening with a bang. Director Clint Eastwood’s latest project J. Edgar, which somehow avoided the Venice, Telluride and Toronto fests, will make its debut at the event.
J. Edgar is a biopic based on the life and times of former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover (Leonardo DiCaprio). The screenplay was written by Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black (Milk) and features a jaw dropping cast that includes Judi Dench, Naomi Watts and Armie Hammer.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, AFI president and CEO Bob Gazzale said, “Clint Eastwood is an American icon – one whose work as a director, actor, producer and composer not only stands the test of time, but also continues to add new, rich chapters with each passing year.”
The AFI Film Festival will be celebrating its 25th year and we can’t think of a better way to kick things off.
J. Edgar is expected to make its theatrical debut Nov. 9, a mere six days after its AFI world premiere.
