Nick Jonas mystery tweet
Nick Jonas doesn't play around. After all, he's so serious about his career and the career of the Jonas Brothers, that his family and friends affectionately call him Mr. President. So when he took to Twitter to announce a big surprise today, everyone wondered what it could be.
Nick Jonas makes no bones about being VERY serious about his career. Although only eighteen, he is wise beyond his years. Which is probably why he has a cougar girlfriend named Delta Goodrem, who is twenty-six years old.
Either she likes younger men or Nick is waaay mature for an 18 year old.
So for the past couple of days, while on vacation with his girlfriend in Mexico (purity ring begone!), an internet rumor started that the big announcement would be that he would pop the question to Goodrem, with whom he has been serious with since April. While there was no confirmation of that rumor, hints were also dropped on websites such as MTV.com that Nick could be taking on Broadway (he already had a well-received run in London as Marius in Les Miserables), or that the Jonas Brothers are getting back together, or that he is going solo once and for all.
He teased fans with tweets on Sept. 5 like, "I'm getting so excited about sharing my big news with you. Who thinks they know what it is? ;)"
Jonas then revealed on Sept. 6, "Headed to the airport, who's ready for my big announcement tomorrow?"
Finally, around noon EST today, Jonas tweeted, "About to make the big announcement in the Big Apple."
And it was...
He is indeed returning to Broadway, to take over the role (played by Daniel Radcliffe in the stage version of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying), of J. Pierrepont Finch. Jonas will grab the reins from Glee star Darren Criss, who will play Pierrepont Finch for most of the month of January, 2012.
The New Jersey native is a Broadway veteran, having gotten his start on the Great White Way. He made his Broadway debut in 2001 in the musical revival of Annie Get Your Gun, then went on to Beauty and the Beast and Les Miserables in 2003. He also starred as Link Larkin in a one-weekend only performance this summer of the hit musical Hairspray.
Tickets are available for the Hirschfield Theater performances now, so grab them before they sell out!
