Gina Carano moves from the ring to the movie screen
MMA fighter Gina Carano is moving from the ring to the big screen after nabbing a hot new role.
Gina Carano knows how to fight the good fight. The MMA champion is an expert in Muay Thai, kicked butt on American Gladiators and is the daughter of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Glenn Carano. Now the tough yet beautiful brunette is stepping out of the ring and onto the big screen after being cast in a huge new film.
Carano will make her Hollywood debut in Steven Soderbergh's upcoming action flick Haywire, costarring such big names as Michael Douglas, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas and Channing Tatum.
Soderbergh says he knew she would be perfect for the role after seeing Carano fight. "I've never seen someone like her fight -- in a cage," he said. The day they met she still had a black eye from a match.
Carano is so tough in the role that even Channing Tatum was a little afraid of her. At first he didn't want to hit a girl, but she taunted him into it.
"She called me the female P word, and then I had to, for my manity," Tatum said. "I hit her and she hit me back twice as hard. Then I didn't want to hit her anymore."
"It was the time of my life," Carano said of her first taste of moviemaking.
Gina Carano and Haywire hit theaters in January 2012.
