He’s the first blond James Bond, and what a bombshell he is! But you don’t have to wait until the newest Bond film comes out in late 2012 to feast your eyes on the fine male specimen that is Daniel Craig. Just round up your posse and mosey on over to your local movie theater to watch him work his onscreen magic in Cowboys and Aliens (out in theaters July 29).
Born: March 2, 1968
Hometown: Cheshire, England
He’s hard as a rock — yet easy on the eyes
Those steely blue eyes look right through us every time we see him on the big screen — and we haven’t even mentioned his syrupy British accent’s effect on our ears. But let’s focus on Craig’s finely chiseled physique. He was ripped as can be in his first 007 foray, Casino Royale, but for his next Bond film, Quantum of Solace, he upped the ante:
“I needed to get as fit as I possibly could,” Craig told the British press. “Although I was big and muscled last time, I was actually not as fit as I am now.”
We’re definitely not complaining, Daniel!
He’s the quiet type
Don’t get us wrong — we love boisterous movie stars (Gerard Butler comes to mind), but there’s something to be said for a guy who sits back and observes instead of making headlines. In dating mostly under-the-radar film professionals for long stretches at a time, Craig has largely stayed out of the tabloids — and we kind of like that.
Plus, his cool façade works for his character. Craig once told Parade that James Bond is the kind of guy who should keep you guessing: “The question I keep asking myself while playing the role is, ‘Am I the good guy or just a bad guy who works for the good side?’ Bond’s role, after all, is that of an assassin when you come down to it. I have never played a role in which someone’s dark side shouldn’t be explored. I don’t think it should be confusing by the end of the movie, but during the movie you should be questioning who he is.”
We’re happy to contemplate your countenance as long as you’d like, Daniel!
He’s a thespian
We couldn’t have picked a hotter theater co-star for Craig: In 2009 he grew a mustache and played a cop alongside Hugh Jackman in the Broadway play A Steady Rain. His stage appearance hearkened back to his very early career, during which he appeared in the play Angels in America in London back in 1993.
Hands off, ladies: Craig is a newly married man. He secretly wed fellow actor Rachel Weisz, 41, late last month. Only four people attended the ceremony, including Craig’s daughter and Weisz’s son. Might we add… Three cheers for age-appropriateness! Frankly, though, Weisz’s radiant beauty transcends age. Congratulations, Daniel and Rachel!
