Daniel Radcliffe says no to alcohol and yes to the quiet life

Every star has a not-so favorable time in their past that they’d like to move on from, including Harry Potter‘s Daniel Radcliffe. Read on to find out what role alcohol played in the star’s life and what he enjoys more than a nice stiff drink.

Daniel RadcliffeDaniel Radcliffe plays the most famous wizard on the planet, but even the Harry Potter star has a few dark secrets. In a recent interview with GQ magazine, Daniel Radcliffe admits that his drinking was out of control at one point.

“I became so reliant on (alcohol) to enjoy stuff,” Radcliffe revealed in the August issue of GQ magazine. Radcliffe’s drinking spiraled downwards during the filming of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

The star admitted, “There were a few years there when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me.”

As for why the public wasn’t completely aware of Daniel Radcliffe’s struggles, he says, “I really got away with that because there were many instances when a shot like that could have been taken.”

Now, the boy who grew up in front of us and wows audiences in Broadway’s How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is enjoying a much more simple life. In fact, he hasn’t indulged in alcohol since last August and he’s realized he’ll never be a casual drinker. “As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn’t work for me. I do that very unsuccessfully. I’d just rather sit at home and read, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh.”

He added, “There’s no shame in enjoying the quiet life.”

Nope, no shame in enjoying the simple things. See, even the stars admit that sometimes the glamorous life isn’t for them.

Daniel Radcliffe can next be seen in the last installment of the Harry Potter franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, on July 15.
