Penn Badgley goes from Dan Humphrey to Jeff Buckley
Move over Robert Pattinson, Penn Badgley just stole your dream role. The Gossip Girl star has been tapped to play the late musician Jeff Buckley in an upcoming biopic. After The Stepfather and Easy A, it looks like Badgley’s ready to take his career to the next level.
The Jeff Buckley biopic has been in the works for a while and some of Hollywood's most talented actors have been attached to star. Aside from Robert Pattinson, James Franco was also mentioned as a possibility before the role went to Penn Badgley.
Oddly enough, Jeff Buckley's mother Mary Guibert publically endorsed Robert Pattinson as the one who could play her son. "Robert is a fine young actor," she said. "I'm flattered he's been linked to this project." Too bad he's not linked anymore. It must feel strange for Badgley knowing that Buckley's own mother was leaning towards Pattinson. Can we say awkward?
The movie will be based on Buckley's short life and music career, which both ended in 1997 when he died at age 30. According to his family, the singer accidentally drowned, while taking a swim in the Mississippi River. There's plenty of meaty material for Badgley to bite into here and we're interested to see if he can pull it off.
