James Rosemond is denying claims he hired a convicted killer to rob and shoot Tupac Shakur, but still remains on the run on drug charges.

Convicted killer Dexter Isaac says rap mogul James Rosemond hired him to rob and shoot Tupac Shakur -- an incident that many think eventually led to the murder of both Shakur and Biggie Smalls. Now Rosemond says he had nothing to do with it.

Rosemond spoke through his lawyer, because he is currently on the run from authorities on some pretty heavy duty drug charges.

"How anyone can take this animal's word as true without any corroboration at all is frankly beyond me," attorney Jeffrey Lichtman told E! News.

"[Isaac] is a guy who is a convicted psychotic killer, who is currently serving a life sentence without parole," Lichtman said. "And what he failed to mention in his statement where he claims that he is not cooperating, is that he was brought back from a prison in Colorado to Brooklyn solely to cooperate with federal authorities. He has been cooperating for months in a desperate attempt to get out from under his life sentence."

"All of a sudden, 17 years later, in a desperate attempt to get out from under his sentence he is making up this story about Jimmy."

Lichtman also says he has yet to see an indictment on Rosemond's drug charges.

And Tupac is still dead -- but here's a cool shot of him with Jada Pinkett Smith from back in the day.
