Cheryl Cole, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell X Factor

Fox has officially replaced Cheryl Cole with Nicole Scherzinger on The X Factor -- although Cole isn't walking away empty-handed.

"Nicole Scherzinger will be replacing Cheryl Cole on the judging panel of The X Factor," the network said in a statement. "Nicole will join Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul on their search across America to find the next global superstar or group to win the life-changing 5 million dollar recording deal. Nicole has previously joined Simon Cowell as a guest judge on The X Factor for the UK version of the show in 2010. Steve Jones will act as sole host of The X Factor."

According to Cole's contract, she will still get her $1.5 million salary -- whether she appears on The X Factor or not.

Why did they "x" out her career on The X Factor? Sources are telling E! News that Cole and Paula Abdul were like "oil and water" and had "lack of chemistry." The two were both complaining about each other to the producers and sources say that Cole's leaving The X Factor was more a "mutual decision."

Her thick English accent had also drawn concerns that American viewers would not be able to understand her.
