MTV Movie Awards: Uncomfortable much?
It was a study in how many times you could squirm in your seat -- also, how many times you could hear an uncomfortable acceptance speech. The 2011 MTV Movie Awards were an evening where even the most hardened awards-show watcher was left saying, "Did that just happen?"
The MTV Movie Awards, 2011, will go down as the most uncomfortable show to watch in the channel's history.
That being said, host Jason Sudeikis (Hall Pass, Saturday Night Live) tried in vain to set the mood with several jokes that, although funny, were clearly meant to leave the audience and the viewers squirming in their seats. So without wasting any more time, here are the five most cringe-worthy moments at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards.
1. Jason Sudeikis gives it to Selena Gomez
Disney darling Selena Gomez portrays herself as the anti-Miley Cyrus, she's a good girl whom parents are okay with allowing their daughters to emulate. Imagine her horror (and ours) when Jason reminded all of us about how Selena's been smooching her underage boyfriend Justin Bieber non-stop for the last month and how she's swallowed three of his baby teeth already. TMI!
2. Robert Pattinson accepting any award
Yes, Robert Pattinson is a movie star. He's handsome, British and... handsome. The star of the most popular vampire movies of all time is clearly a guy you want to wake up next to in the morning, but do you want to make small talk or send him on his way? The odd thing about Pattinson is that he can deliver a line with depth, clarity and conviction... but leave him to his own devices and it's like a scene out of Mr. Bean. Rambling on after each win, making little sense (except when he dropped an uncensored F-bomb during his fete of Reese Witherspoon), Rob kinda just needs to be a man of few words if you know what we mean.
3. Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake's groping session
It was really cute when the two Friends with Benefits stars were trying to prove that they were like brother and sister and that media reports of them being more than friends were false. That's when things started to get really creepy. Justin had his hands on her boobs, Mila put her hands on his crotch and the rest of the world just watched them and wondered, "Hey, how can we get jobs like that?"
4. Wouldn't want to be Blake Lively tonight!
When you do something as thoughtless as taking nude photos of yourself on your cell phone and have them allegedly "leaked," there's bound to be some backlash. Usually if you're a big star, you can tune it out. But if you're an up-and-comer like Blake Lively and the hazing is coming from the show's host and (gasp) Reese Witherspoon, your best bet is to smile pretty and ignore the comments.
5. Justin Bieber winning for Never Say Never
Sorry MTV, the best jaw dropping moment was not that Justin Bieber was nominated for his "Performance Spectacular" Never Say Never, it's that he actually won -- against 127 Hours' James Franco cutting off his arm, Leo DiCaprio in the cafe scene in Inception, Natalie Portman pulling at her skin in Black Swan and Steve-O getting (expletive) faced, literally, in Jackass 3-D! Didn't see that coming!
