Karl Urban: From Lord of the Rings to Priest

Karl Urban has a terrific habit of starring in some of the most iconic movies of the last decade. Urban appeared in the second and third of the Lord of the Rings trilogy (the final earning a Best Picture Oscar) as the Rohan warrior Eomer, he killed as Kirill in The Bourne Supremacy opposite Matt Damon and most recently starred in the J.J. Abrams Star Trek update as Dr. Bones McCoy.

Now, Karl Urban is set to put another fabulous part on his resume, that of Black Hat in the horror-thriller Priest. Urban is the classic Western villain with his noir headpiece.

One of the reasons Urban treasured the opportunity of the role of Black Hat in Priest was that the film crosses the boundaries of numerous genres. Priest is equal parts vampire flick, horror film, Western, suspense thriller and love story.

Urban's character in Priest is the most dangerous threat to mankind since the war against vampires began.

The film sets the tone early on that humans and vampires have done battle for centuries and it was only when the church discovered an army of priests with supernatural powers, that the tide of war turned towards the humans.

Now, with Black Hat anchoring a new vampire assault on humans, his hybrid character of priest and vampire could spell the end for mankind. It's up to the last remaining fighters, Priest (Paul Bettany) and Priestess (Maggie Q), to turn the tide.

Urban is a native of New Zealand and as you'll see in our exclusive video interview, it is not only his good looks that make him charming, but his delightful accent.
