Can Cameron Diaz go maternal for What to Expect role?
Actress Cameron Diaz may be about to become a mom on the big screen. Word has it the 38-year-old is poised to sign on for the lead role in an upcoming film based on the book What to Expect When You're Expecting.
Just how the book What to Expect When You're Expecting, a pregnancy manual it seems nearly all moms have come across, is going to be made into a movie remains a mystery. The website Deadline claims to have the inside scoop on the film, and its apparent star, Cameron Diaz.
They report, "Nothing's official yet, but I'm expecting Cameron Diaz to have a deal shortly to star in Lionsgate's What to Expect When You're Expecting, the Kirk Jones-directed romantic comedy adaptation of Heidi Murkoff's bestselling how-to manual."
Elaborating on the approach to the film, Deadline continues, "The idea is to take a book that has sold north of 16 million copies, and turn into a pic in the vein of Love Actually, where five couples experience the surprises that happen when a stork visit is imminent."
While turning a week-by-week pregnancy manual into a feature film sounds like a challenge, it's hard to understand the reasoning behind casting Cameron Diaz as the lead actress. There isn't much about the 38-year-old (who has never been married or had children) that screams maternal instinct!
Cameron Diaz, who finally admitted she is dating Alex Rodriguez this past week, doesn't sound like she's ready to settle down any time soon either. "I think we have to make our own rules," Cameron says of marriage. "I don't think we should live our lives in relationships based off of old traditions that don't suit our world any longer."
Would you have cast Cameron Diaz as the lead role in What to Expect?
