Marion Cotillard to play Miranda Tate in Batman

Inception actress Marion Cotillard has been confirmed to play Miranda Tate in the latest Batman movie directed by Christopher Nolan. Get all the details on this new and mysterious character, as well as other casting news for The Dark Knight Rises, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Marion Cotillard’s role in the latest Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, has been kept a secret — until now! The Oscar-winning actress will play socialite Miranda Tate, whom Cinema Blend describes as “a Wayne Enterprise board member who helps Bruce in his grief and aids in philanthropic endeavors.”

There was speculation that Cotillard would be playing the villain Talia al Ghul, however, the character of Miranda Tate is a new character, causing mixed reactions from Batman fans.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who actually worked with Cotillard and director Christopher Nolan on Inception, has been confirmed to play John Blake, who is described as “a Gotham police officer assigned to special duty by Commissioner Gordon.” The character of Commissioner Gordon will be played by Gary Oldman. Gordon-Levitt was thought to be playing the villain Alberto Falcone or the Holiday Killer, however, his confirmed character is also new to Batman!

Nolan isn’t sharing much more about his two new Batman characters, but is excited to work again with his two Inception stars. “When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again.”

Cotillard is currently pregnant and expecting her first child next month with French actor/director Guillaume Canet. The Dark Knight Rises is slated for release in July, 2012.
