Julianne Moore has been tapped to play Sarah Palin in the HBO original film Game Change.

Fresh off playing a lesbian mom in the film The Kids Are All Right, Julianne Moore has been slated to play hockey mom Sarah Palin in HBO’s Game Change.

The original film is based on the bestselling book by political reporters John Heilemann and Mark Halperin and follows the 2008 presidential campaign. The book takes you behind the scenes as McCain decides on his running mate Palin — and chronicles their ultimate loss in the general election to President Barack Obama.

The Game Change screenplay will be written by Danny Strong and directed by Jay Roach. Strong’s 2008 HBO Emmy Award-winning film Recount followed the 2000 presidential race between Al Gore and George W. Bush.

How will the four-time Academy Award nominee Moore play Palin? It is hard to imagine anyone playing Palin better than Tina Fey! She won an Emmy for Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Palin on Saturday Night Live.

No word yet on who will play any of the other roles, including President Obama or the Clintons.

What do you think of Julianne Moore playing Sarah Palin?
