Hollywood power couple Melissa Gilbert and Bruce Boxleitner have announced they will divorce after 16 years of marriage.
“We have loved each other for a very long time and we share four incredible sons together,” the 46-year-old Gilbert said in a statement to E! News. “On behalf of our family we ask to be allowed our privacy during this very difficult time.”
Gilbert, a former child star best known for her role as Laura Ingalls in the much-beloved Little House on the Prairie TV series, still makes a lot of cable lady-centric flicks and was president of the Screen Actors Guild. Boxleitner has enjoyed a long TV career and most recently starred in Tron: Legacy.
The couple has one child together, a 15-year-old son named after Gilbert’s TV father Michael Landon. She has another son from a previous marriage and 60-year-old Boxleitner has two others.
