Piers Morgan announces Oprah Winfrey as first guest
Piers Morgan is taking his seat as Larry King's successor seriously which is why Oprah Winfrey will be his first guest. No, any old guest won't do for his debut of Piers Morgan Tonight.
When the curtains go up on Piers Morgan Tonight January 17, Oprah Winfrey will appear in what we can only guess will be an opportunity to keep the momentum moving toward her new network OWN. It's a win-win for both -- Morgan gets a fantastic guest and Oprah gets to talk about OWN.
Piers Morgan is replacing the great Larry King who ended his reign after 25 stellar years. Morgan is hoping his new show can give the ratings a kick in the pants for CNN. "I'd like to get to the position...where the butt-kicking is reversed," he revealed. He added that CNN needs to be more "competitive" and "much more than we have been."
Piers Morgan is boasting the show might just surprise us and he's accomplishing great feats such as making Simon Cowell cry. We'll believe it when we see it.
Don't expect him to chat face-to-face with Madonna though. "Lady Gaga is half her age and twice as good looking, twice as hot," he explained. "Why would I bother with Madonna, anyway?"
Piers Morgan Tonight will be based in New York but will find itself in the midst of the royal wedding this spring as it goes live from London for a week.
