Did Rihanna and Matt Kemp break up?

Sources have said Rihanna and L.A. Dodger Matt Kemp have called it quits. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that since Rihanna and Kemp hooked up last January, so proceed with caution.

Rihanna and Matt Kemp

After months of speculation and even a few scattered breakup rumors early last year, Rihanna confirmed she was dating Dodger outfielder Matt Kemp in April. A year later, rumors are circulating that the romance is over.

With Rihanna and Matt Kemp planning to spend the current holiday season apart, allegations surfaced early this month that the pair was heading for a breakup.

There’s even been speculation that Rihanna is now being courted by Degrassi: The Next Generation alum-turned-rapper Drake. That version of events has Rihanna and Drake warming up to each other during her very public breakup with abusive beau Chris Brown, when the timing was anything but right. Now, allegedly, the timing is better.

Amid these rumblings, unnamed sources are confirming the split around the net. As with Us Weekly‘s new source, however, everyone seems to be offering conflicting versions of the breakup story, from Kemp cheating on Rihanna to Rihanna being too immature for a relationship, to the professional pair being too busy for romance.

“It happened over the last few weeks,” the Us source reported. “She basically was just over it.”

That puts the breakup in RiRi’s hands, but that same source then insinuated it was Kemp who wanted out after a year of dating the jet-setting, chart-topper Rihanna — who’s busy promoting her album Loud.

“He just can’t keep up with her crazy travel schedule,” said the source. “Matt’s sick of always following after her like a puppy dog all over the world. He wants something more normal.”

With Rihanna back on her home turf for a vacay in Barbados, there’s been no word from her camp about the new spate of rumors or her current dating status.

Though it’s not looking promising, the Rihanna and Kemp breakup remains solidly in the rumor column for now.
