Oprah Winfrey talks to Barbara Walters about her BFF Gayle King, saying the lesbian rumors are not true.

Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King

Oprah Winfrey tells Barbara Walters in an upcoming special that she and Gayle King are the best of friends -- but that is it. "I'm not a lesbian. I'm not even kind of a lesbian," the 56-year-old media mogul says.

Winfrey and Gayle King have had a close friendship for years and the two are both single (Gayle divorced Bill Bumpus in 1993 and Oprah has never been married), leading some gossipmongers to speculate that the pair were lesbians.

"The reason why it irritates me is because it means that somebody must think I'm lying. That's number one," Winfrey tells Walters. "Number two...why would you want to hide it? That is not the way I run my life."

Oprah Winfrey does say that she and Gayle do share a special bond.

"She is...the mother I never had. She is...the sister everybody would want. She is the friend that everybody deserves. I don't know a better person. I don't know a better person," Oprah says. "It's making me cry because I'm thinking about...how much...I probably have never told her that. Tissue please. I now need tissue. I've never told her that."
