Skating with the Stars premieres November 22 and here is what we know about ABC’s coolest new premiere. Actually, a version of the show called Skating with the Celebrities debuted in 2006 but is now back taking a note from its British successor of the same name.
Skating with the Stars is basically Dancing with the Stars, only it’s on ice and has a British host.
British TV personality Vernon Kay will serve as the SWTS‘ Tom Bergeron while Team USA ice dancer, Tanitha Belbin, serves as a play-by-play commentator.
When we first revealed ABC’s plans to slap some skates on a housewife and a rock legend, we couldn’t help but wonder who their professional partners would be. Here’s the skinny on the pros you’ll see cutting the ice on Skating with the Stars.
Ethan Burgess and Bethenny Frankel
Ethan Burgess was the 2004 bronze medalist at the U.S. Championships with partner Keauna McLaughlin — not to mention Jon Heder’s stunt double in Blades of Glory.
Brooke Castile and Jonny Moseley
Brooke Castile is the 2007 U.S. pairs title winner.
Keauna McLaughlin and Brandon Mychal Smith
Keauna McLaughlin was actually Ethan Burgess’ partner back in 2004 and 2005 taking the bronze medal with him at the U.S. Championships.
Fred Palascak and Rebecca Budig
Fred Palascak is a two-time United States Eastern Sectional champion.
Denis Petukhov and Sean Young
From 2004 to 2007, Denis Petukhov was awarded silver medals at the U.S. Championships for ice dancing.
Jennifer Wester and Vince Neil
Jennifer Wester is the 2007 Nebelhorn Trophy champion.
We were kind of hoping Johnny Weir would be taking part as one of the pros, but ABC did us one better. Olympic skater Johnny Weir will be a part of the judges’ panel alongside Dick Button and Laurie Ann Gibson, the creative eyes driving Lady Gaga’s choreography.
