The Sound of Music cast reunites on Oprah
The Oprah Winfrey Show is all about big spectacle reunions and now she has brought together the iconic cast from The Sound of Music.
Earlier this season, Oprah's trumpeted final one, at least in its current incarnation before she takes her party over to her OWN network (OWN=Oprah Winfrey Network, but it's also a pun), she got The Judds together. A few years ago, she chartered a plane to get the whole insanely massive Osmond family to Chicago, and now the cast of The Sound of Musicwill gather together on her celebrated stage for what they're calling a "once-in-a-lifetime reunion."
On Friday, October 29, The Sound of Music's Maria (Julie Andrews) and all of the Von Trapps, from the Captain (Christopher Plummer) to Gretl, will reunite for the first time in 45 years to "[share] secrets from the set [and reminiscence] about their time together and what their lives have been like in the years since the movie was released" on the Oprahshow.
The film, which won Best Picture at the 1965 Academy Awards, was, like many people, one of our favorites growing up. We'd dash home from school every afternoon, throw in our BetaMax cassette (we totally just dated ourselves) and sing Sixteen Going on Seventeen at the top of our lungs. Still, it wasn't until high school that we realized the ridiculousness of the lyrics to Do Re Mi.
We're with her on "Doe, a deer, a female deer/Ray, a drop of golden sun/Me, a name I call myself…" But then she loses us when she takes it to "Fah, a long, long way to run." Maria must've grown up in Bushwick because that gets us every time.
The Sound of Music cast will also be promoting the Sing-a-Long version of the movie on Oprah.
