Life as We Know It preview: Katherine Heigl's art meets life
In the romantic comedy, Life as We Know It, Holly and Eric (played by Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel) discover that life often takes you on an unexpected path -- that leads you exactly where you are supposed to be.
Life as We Know It stars Katherine Heigl (The Ugly Truth, Grey's Anatomy), who plays the busy caterer Holly Berenson, and Josh Duhamel (Transformers), who plays a network sports director named Eric Messer. After a first date disaster, the two have an instant dislike for each other. They do share one common bond, however, which is their love for their goddaughter, baby Sophie.
Bonding over baby
"Some chick says, 'You can forget the condom,' and I say, 'No!' and I still end up with the kid!" lamented Duhamel's character, Eric. After a horrible tragedy, Holly and Eric are named guardians of their goddaughter, Sophie. The two are completely unprepared for parenthood, as are many of us when welcoming a baby, however, they also struggle with dealing with their own tense relationship.
Through some funny parenting mishaps, many involving baby poo ("It looks like Slumdog Millionaire in there!"), the couple starts to bond and learn the true meaning of a family.
Katherine's real life baby experience
Heigl was surprised to learn that her adoption of 22-month-old Naleigh was going through -- a week before filming Life as We Know It started! "We were going through the same things that she was going through in the movie at the same time," her husband, Josh Kelley, told People.com.
"It was a zoo, a full on circus," said Heigl. "Most of the time I just felt guilty that I wasn't spending enough time with my own daughter, and I was spending too much time with the triplets [who played baby Sophie in the movie] on set."
Josh prepares for fatherhood
How did Duhamel prepare for his role as a dad? He said he knew that playing a father "would come naturally," although he did spend some extra time bonding with his triplet co-stars. Producer Barry Josephson said that Duhamel "came in a week early, and would get on the floor with all three of them."
Are there real life babies in Duhamel's future? The hunky actor has been married to Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie since 2009 -- so we will have to stay tuned for his life as he knows it.
Life as We Know It is directed by Greg Berlanti (Brothers & Sisters, Everwood) and co-stars Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Hayes MacArthur (The Game Plan) and Jean Smart (Samantha Who?). Life as We Know It is out October 8.
