Grey’s Anatomy preview: Shock to the System

It’s all hands on deck when lightning strikes on Grey’s Anatomy. Unfortunately, the good doctors are all still battling post traumatic issues from the shootout in the Grey’s Anatomy episode, Shock to the System.

Seattle Grace is hit by a team of lightning victims when a storm takes out eight flag footballers. The patients come in with burns, paralysis, blindness, blown ear drums and a dislocated hip, meaning everyone has work to do.

Grey's Anatomy stars Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh

Amid all the madness, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) finally coax Cristina (Sandra Oh) back into the surgery, but that goes very wrong. Jackson’s (Jesse Williams) sticky fingers cause a mid-surgery crash and Cristina is hit by a serious return of PTSD.

When Cristina is left immobilized on the floor, Meredith has to come to her rescue.

That inspires Mer to give it to her post-it hubby, Derek. She shoots down his new penchant for speed behind the wheel and admits she’s petrified she’s going to lose him. Word is, she’ll also come out about the miscarriage she had during the shootout and finally get her own pass to return to surgery.

Meanwhile, everyone wants Alex (Justin Chambers) to remove the bullet in his gut, but he can’t let go of it. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) ultimately warns that she’ll keep him out of surgery if he doesn’t get it removed, but that bullet may not be his biggest damage.

Turns out that the tough guy is still afraid to get on the elevator, where he took a bullet during the shootout. He also wants to check in on Lexi (Chyler Leigh), but worries he’s a crazy magnet, since all the women around him go off the deep end. Meredith tries to give him a reality check on his track record with the ladies, while the Chief (James Pickens, Jr.) tries to help him with his new elevator phobia.

Callie (Sara Ramirez) has also got her hands full. Now that she and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) are making house in her home, Arizona wants to brighten the place up. Edgy Callie isn’t into the idea, but she’s even less excited about Mark’s (Eric Dane) desire to pop the question. She warns that all the death and destruction has him ready to jump the gun and a proposal too soon is sure to backfire.

Grey’s Anatomy airs at 9 p.m. on ABC, followed by an episode of Private Practice that sets up next week’s crossover that brings Derek’s sister, Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) to Seattle.
