Fox aired its season seven finale of So You Think You Can Dance August 11 and the judges all agreed the race for the dance champion is closer than ever.

The So You Think You Can Dance season seven finale came down to the final three Wednesday night. The tightest top three in the dance show's history pitted the last standing girl against two deserving guys.

The So You Think You Can Dance top 3

Finalists Lauren Froderman, Kent Boyd, and Robert Roldan took to the So You Think You Can Dance stage for one last twirl to prove who should be crowned as Thursday night's champion. The prize at stake is $250,000 and it's anyone's game at this point.

The finalists were awarded a choreographer, four show-stopping numbers and a solo to show off their skills to the American voters.

Garnered as the most improved dancer of the season by judge Mia Michaels, Robert Roldan received high marks for his jazzy number set to West Side Story. Judge Adam Shankman proudly claimed Roldan had danced the routine purely for himself. If judge Nigel Lythgoe is correct in his evaluation of Robert Roldan, the contestant could surprise us when the champion is crowned.

The only girl left in the competition, Lauren Froderman, danced like a star during the So You Think You Can Dance finale as she teamed up with former fan favorite contestant, Twitch, for her best routine of the night. The number was choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon. I've loved these choreographers in the past and tonight was no exception as they helped Lauren Froderman hip hop her way into being a contender for the crown.

In my opinion, it was Kent Boyd's night. He performed a Bollywood-infused number that was dubbed the "feel good dance of the season." The biggest critique of the night for the small town dancer came during his contemporary piece. He told judge Adam Shankman he wasn't concerned about the steps and let them flow naturally. Shankman emotionally claimed the young man turned into a pure artist at that very moment. He was no longer just a dancer.

Kent Boyd does his thing

At this point it's hard to tell who will take the title. Kent Boyd has been a fan favorite, Lauren Froderman has proven herself worthy and Robert Roldan is just pure genius. Tune in Thursday, August 12, to see who wins season seven of So You Think You Can Dance.
