Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn Divorcing
It’s official, Sean Penn, 49, and Robin Wright, 44, are divorced.
Thus ends a three-year saga of breakups and makeups that capped Sean Penn and Robin Wright's turbulent but passionate years together.
The pair began dating in 1989 after meeting on the set of the film, State of Grace. Sean Penn and Robin Wright had two children together and were married in a surprise ceremony in 1996. Living a quiet life in Northern California, Robin Wright described their relationship as "beautiful torture" during a 2004 interview and three years later the couple filed for divorce in December 2007. But they were back together by April 2007 when they were spotted at an Eddie Vedder concert in San Francisco. Sean was invited onstage to perform a song which he dedicated to Robin for her birthday and the couple asked for divorce proceedings to be canceled soon after.
It was so sweet it made us want to punch a photographer in the face to celebrate.
Sadly, things eventually started to sour.
Sean Penn was linked to Natalie Portman and model Petra Nemcova, reportedly even hooking up with Petra at an Oscar party the same night he decided not to thank his wife in his Academy Award acceptance speech for Best Actor in Milk. Infidelity rumors had plagued the couple since chunky heels and chokers were in style. Sean Penn was also linked to singer Jewel back in 1997, around the same time he reportedly cheated on Robin with Kate Moss.
On August 4, the couple reached agreements on child support, custody of their children, daughter Dylan and son Hopper, and splitting their assets, making the divorce finalized.
Another one bites the dust.
Marriages in Hollywood tend to go in and out as quickly as outfits from Forever 21, but we always thought Robin and Sean would last. Despite the rumors of infidelity, they share a fierce intelligence and a quiet intensity that, no doubt, made their heat even hotter, whether it was passion or anger.
We wish them both all the best as they start this new chapter in their lives, a chapter that includes another model for Sean (natch). In June he was quoted as saying his ex-wife was "a ghost to me now" and was spotted on some romantic outings with model Jessica White. Robin Wright, meanwhile, is still single and ready to mingle but we doubt Princess Buttercup will be on the market for very long.
