Nicole Richie gets probation extended
A judge has agreed to extend the probation term for Nicole Richie by a year because of her kids.
Nicole Richie was arrested in 2006 for DUI after cops found her driving the wrong way on a Los Angeles freeway on her way to visit then-boyfriend (and now baby daddy) Joel Madden.
Cops say Nicole Richie admitted to taking a Vicodin and smoking pot. She was sentenced to probation upon condition of completing alcohol education classes (which is weird because she was not drunk -- cops found no alcohol in her system). That probation was due to end this month.
But Richie's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley -- the same legal eagle repping Lindsay Lohan -- explained to the judge that Nicole Richie had to take a court-approved leave of absence from the classes to take care of her kids: Harlow, two, and Sparrow, nine months.
The judge extended Nicole's probation to March 2011 and said she could call it off earlier if the classes are finished before then, according to TMZ.
For her part, Richie's alcohol education report says, "Her attitude is excellent."
