Ugly Betty is cancelled
ABC is pulling its plug on the comedy-drama, Ugly Betty starring America Ferrera as the sweet, smart and hard working Betty Suarez. The show struck a chord with viewers as Betty isn't thin nor is she beautiful like her co-workers at Mode, the slick fashionista magazine where she works.
The announcement of Ugly Betty being cancelled is shocking to viewers as this fourth season will be its last. The suits at ABC are giving producers enough time to create a remarkable ending and giving fans enough warning so they know their show's days are numbered.
An ABC exec said, "We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty's final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell."
Perhaps we could have seen this coming when Ugly Betty moved to Thursday nights and floundered as a lead-in for the hit drama to Grey's Anatomy. Then it was moved to Fridays where it had lackluster ratings and finally ended up on Wednesday nights after the
network's hit comedy shows.
Thanks to the talent of its star America Ferrera in the lead role, Ugly Betty helped launch the show into the dramedy genre which is doing well for a newbie show on Fox, Glee. The show also launched America into A-list status as a household name and snagged a 2007 Golden Globe Award for Best Comedy Series. Buh-bye, Betty. You will be missed!
