After a sad year of numerous celebrity deaths in 2009, the first of 2010 is equally as sudden and shocking.
News of Casey Johnson's death
The body of 30-year-old socialite Casey Johnson, daughter of Jets' owner Woody Johnson and heir to the Johnson & Johnson brand fortune, was found by her maid at her Los Angeles home. She was
pronounced dead by paramedics at 11:51 am Monday, January 4, 2010.
At this time, it is unclear how long Johnson may have been dead when authorities arrived; however, there is suggestion that she had died a couple days earlier. Preliminary investigations report no signs of foul play. Results of a toxicology test could take up to six weeks to obtain.
Initial reports list Johnson's cause of death as "natural causes."
'It appears to be a natural death,' said LAPD officer Sara Faden to the press. 'There's no evidence of foul play. A toxicology report from the coroner's office will proceed next.'
Johnson, who was referred to as a 'sweet but troubled girl' by a family friend, was battling drug and alcohol addiction. She had recently run into legal troubles after being accused of breaking and entering the California home of former reality TV star and ex-girlfriend Jasmine Lennard, stealing clothes and performing lewd acts.
