Whitney Houston’s Oprah visit revealing
Whitney Houston visited Oprah for a two-part interview that Oprah called her most intense in 24 seasons. SheKnows has the scoop, plus a sneak peek of the latest Whitney Houston music video.
Whitney Houston spoke of her marriage to Bobby Brown and took viewers inside the union that almost destroyed her. Although she said that Brown never hit her, she described many occasions where Houston reported being pushed or slapped.
Whitney Houston also revealed that her and Bobby Brown’s drug of choice was rock cocaine sprinkled on a marijuana joint and that the reality television train wreck Being Bobby Brown was all his idea.
In the midst of all this emotional exposure, it is easy to forget that Houston has a new album out. Houston’s I Look To You debuted at the top of the charts. Whitney moved 304, 801 in her first week alone.

Houston said it was the cheating that finally doomed her marriage to Bobby Brown. The verbal (and physical) abuse could not do it, but when the man she had completely given herself to on so many levels broke the marriage vows, it was over.
“He did ugly things outside the marriage... I wasn't going to be in an unholy matrimony,” Houston said to Oprah.
During the Whitney Houston/Oprah interview part 2 segment that aired September 15, Houston’s daughter may have provided the most emotional punch. Sitting near her mother, she revealed what she told her superstar mother before they embarked on a Bobby Brown-free life.
Bobbi Kristina, 16, said, “You don’t deserve this, and neither do I.”
Whitney Houston exposed that her marriage to Bobby Brown began to have serious cracks after the success of The Bodyguard. When I Will Always Love You sat at number one all those months, Houston was quietly in anguish because her husband was being seriously overshadowed. The singer said she routinely would ask people to refer to her as “Mrs. Brown” after the success of The Bodyguard.
Soon after, Brown began acting crazy. “There were times when he would smash things, break things in the home,” Houston said. “Glass. We had a big, big giant portrait of me and him and my child. He cut my head off the picture. Stuff like that. And I thought, 'This is really strange.' So I figured, cutting my head off a picture -- that was a little much for me. That was one sign.”
