Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen did it again. Winning the box office battle two weeks in a row, beating Ice Age, is impressive, but look out for Hurricane Bruno hitting the box office this weekend.
If you think July 4th is just about fireworks, barbecues and apple pie — think again. It’s also about the summer movie box office, baby! This year proved to be no different as the
action movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen came up strong in first place and won the box office for a second consecutive weekend.
Studios initially reported the first and second place winner, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, both took in approximately $42.5 million worth of tickets during the three day holiday
weekend. As for the final reports? Transformers earned approximately $42.3 million and Ice Age sequel debuted with $41.7 million.
So far Transformers has become the biggest blockbuster in 2009 and that’s not just limited to the good old U-S-of-A. It’s the biggest flick worldwide in addition to our
continent. It should be interesting to see what happens next week when Sacha Baron Cohen’s new flick, Bruno hits theaters.
In the film, Cohen’s character is a faux Austrian fashion expert who apparently makes uber macho men uncomfortable with his homosexuality.
You may recall his little film a few years ago, Borat, which cleaned up in the box office and headlines as well so we can only imagine what type of commotion or controversies his new movie
will stir up. Cohen is already busy at work with four more projects in the works. If Borat is any indicator of his success, after Bruno we wonder what other characters (in addition to Ali G) we’ll be introduced to from the mind of
