Anne Hathaway to play Judy Garland
Anne Hathaway took the Oscar stage by storm with her singing prowess. Now word rises the Oscar-nominated Hathaway will play an entertainment legend.
Remember back to the Oscars...
Who could forget, darling! As Hugh Jackman impressed us with his talent once again during the introduction, Anne Hathaway took the stage and they both serenaded us with a duet. In awe, viewers at home thought collectively (okay, maybe just this viewer but still...) wow, Hathaway can sing!
And so she will once again. On the silver screen, that is. Anne Hathaway inked a deal to play Judy Garland in stage and screen adaptations of Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland. This should prove to be a very interesting role which Hathaway is suited for beyond belief.
Although Garland was technically in the spotlight decades ago, we do know this: her personal life was troubled and peppered with alcohol. While the director and producer of Hathaway's musical project have yet to be announced, Harvey Weinstein announced the Oscar-nominee's casting.
We can only imagine the potential of Anne Hathaway and how much more she can grow as an actress. After all, she shone in Rachel Getting Married, a role which garnered her an Oscar nomination. Hathaway made us laugh in Bride Wars and made a name for herself in The Devil Wears Prada.
Now exploring her prowess in a musical role, will she win that Oscar? Keep in mind, the Academy Awards loves musicals. Chicago? Check...best picture! Dreamgirls? Check...best supporting actress. Get Happy?
Anne Hathaway gives us yet another reason to love her work. And maybe, Oscar will follow.
