Knowing Nicolas Cage knows how to produce box office hits, producers at Summit Entertainment have proven prolific. The company has their second hit in a row with Knowing. The Twilight movie company got behind Nicolas Cage and his box office mojo and produced a surprise hit besting I Love You, Man and last week’s number one – Watchmen.
Knowing topped the box office with a total of $24.8 million. The Paul Rudd and Jason Segel starring I Love You, Man earned $18 million for third place. Rashida Jones and company look to increase their box office clout as word of mouth on the comedy crosses the country.
Coming in third is the Julia Roberts and Clive Owen’s crime-caper Duplicity finished second with a respectable $14.4 million. In fourth place was the Disney redo of the Witch Mountain franchise starring The Rock. Race to Witch Mountain took in $13 million.
Blockbuster defined is what’s coming at all the above films with DreamWorks’ Monsters vs. Aliens. The 3-D masterwork stars Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Kiefer Sutherland and House himself, Hugh Laurie.
For now, other than Twilight, Summit has reason to celebrate – which for any studio making their mark, is always a good thing.
